Meet our Little Malcolm (when he WAS little)
Over 10 years ago Scott and I became a big couple with Malcolm. While our family went from 3, to 4, to 5, once a week we would pick up Malcolm and bring him over for dinner, walks, and activities with our family. Something we learned about Malcolm was he was afraid of water and could not swim. For 2 weeks during 5 summers we enrolled Malcolm in swimming lessons so that he could learn to swim.
We also learned Malcolm was afraid of dogs, which was problematic since we had a dog. Even though our dog was the sweetest, harmless dog, Malcolm could barely be in the house if the dog was in the house. With years of effort, Malcolm was able to overcome his fear of our dog, and hopefully be less afraid.
I tell you this because here are two concrete ways our relationship with Malcolm over the past 10 years has hopefully improved his life for the better. I am sure there are countless intangible ways he has affected our lives as we have affected his.
Malcolm has now graduated from High School and is currently enrolled in vocational classes at a community college.
